Looking to buy a cat tower but sticker shock set in as it did me?  We decided to build our own and we call it the “Cat Condo”.  Here’s the final product. It’s about 52 inches tall and light enough for me to pick up and move.

My friend Bill & I started by looking around at what was available in the stores and decided we could do it a lot cheaper with mostly left over wood that he had laying around. In total, I spent around $20 for what we didn’t have. That’s a far cry from the $175 to $350 for store bought ones you see in these pictures: After reading blogs about these, people say how they spray catnip on them to get their cat interested. Honestly, we didn’t need to. Aubie took to it right away. I really believe it has to do with the carpeting we used which is much more plush than the cheap stuff they throw on the store bought ones. I had it left from when we installed new carpet. Bill and I started with an idea but no plans drawn up. So we did make a mistake or two along the way.
